About supported living

Supported living is a flexible option for people who want to retain their independence but want support when they need it. Leonard Cheshire is the sole care provider. A housing association provides an accessible property: for this service it is Inclusion Housing. Every tenant has their own one bedroom self-contained flat.

Who we support

We offer supported living for up to 10 disabled adults at Moss Road. Our linked service, Heathcroft, is also part of Essex Community Support and Enabling Service: this offers supported living for another 14 disabled adults.

People living at Moss Road are currently all aged between 18 and 65.  None of the tenants are wheelchair users. While the building is not wheelchair accessible, it is suitable for everyone living here.

We offer person-centred care. We take time to understand each individual’s personal preferences and what’s important to them in their lives.

We understand that people’s conditions are just one part of their lives, affecting them in different ways. We provide support to people with a range of conditions. This includes:

  • People who have physical conditions (including mobility impairments)
  • People who have learning disabilities
  • People who have autism
  • People who have Prada Willi Syndrome
  • People who have Williams Syndrome

What support we provide

We provide support to all tenants at Moss Road when needed. This can involve all forms of personal care, medication support and assistance with daily living.  We also help people to get out and about and access the local community.

Everyone receives a certain amount of one-to-one support. The precise amount of this support will depend on an individual’s particular care package. Everyone has their own person-centred plan.

We help people build life skills. These might include volunteering and career opportunities and educational opportunities, empowering tenants to grow in confidence. These might also include cooking, cleaning, bill management. (Tenants pay for their own utility bills, such as electricity and internet costs, as they would in any supported living or community flat.)
