About Supported Living
Supported living is a flexible option for people who want to retain their independence but want support when they need it. Leonard Cheshire is the sole care provider. A housing association provides an accessible property: for this service it is inclusion Housing. Every tenant has their own front door.
Who we support
We offer supported living for up to 14 disabled adults at Heathcroft. Our linked service, Moss Road, is also part of Essex Community Support and Enabling Service: this offers supported living for another 10 disabled adults with slightly higher needs.
People living at Heathcroft are currently all aged between 18 and 65. We offer person-centred care: we take time to understand each individual’s personal preferences and what’s important to them in their lives.
We know that people’s conditions are just one part of their lives, affecting them in different ways. In case it is useful for prospective tenants to know, people we support have a wide range of conditions that include:
- Physical conditions (including mobility impairments)
- Learning disabilities
- Autism
- Downs syndrome.
- Williams syndrome
- Alcohol induced dementia.
- Sensory impairments
- Acquired brain injuries
I was born in Essex and worked for the NHS as an Access Health Champion. Because of my brain injury which I sustained 3 years ago, I was placed at Seven Rivers residential where I recovered and was able to start using both of my hands. Living at Heath croft has completely transformed my life and I am able to live an independent life with support. I love going to my local pub to watch the Football and Rugby and I come back to a home which is full of fun and excitement. I love the staff here at Heath croft and they do a brilliant job in helping me regain my independence.

What support we provide
We provide a range of support and care to tenants at Heathcroft When required, this can include: all forms of personal care, medication support and assistance with daily living. We also help people to get out and about and access the local community.
Everyone receives a certain amount of one-to-one support. The precise amount of this support will depend on a person’s particular care package.
We help people build life skills wherever possible: these might include volunteering and career opportunities, tenancy rights, cleaning, cooking, bill management. (Tenants pay for their own utility bills, such as electricity and internet costs, as they would in any supported living or community flat.)
Essex Community Support and Enabling Service is a brilliant option for someone that wants to live independently, and we have some brilliant examples of people that have come to our service and flourished. All of our residents are warm and welcoming, and we have a brilliant, fun atmosphere.
