Bromley specialist care home rated ‘Good’ in all categories

A specialist care home in Sundridge Avenue, Bromley, London, has been rated ‘Good’ in all areas after an inspection by the national care regulator. 
 
Residents at St Cecilia’s have a wide range of complex physical disabilities, with some people living there also having a learning disability. 
 
The service has now been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in all areas assessed: safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership. 
 
Inspectors highlighted that: “Care was designed to promote people’s choice and independence,” while care records included detailed information on people’s safety and wellbeing. These were person-centred and reflected individuals’ needs and wishes. 
 
Staff had a good understanding of people’s needs, preferences and routines. There were activities arranged within and outside the service that people could choose to get involved in. Smaller group or individual activities were also offered when this was preferred. 
 
Residents were supported by staff who had the skills and knowledge to support them safely. 
 
Inspectors heard positive feedback about the service from people living there and their relatives. They said they felt safe, and staff treated them with “kindness and respect”. Comments included: “The staff and the manager know us all well and do their utmost to make it our home,” and “There is a lot going on and you can pick and choose activities.” 
 
People living at St Cecilia’s had access to a variety of health and social care services to support their health and wellbeing, with physiotherapy available at the service. There were effective systems in place safeguard people and to ensure the environment was appropriate and safe. 
 
Inspectors found: “Staff listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events. Lessons were learnt to continually identify and embed good practice.”

“We are all passionate about what we do. Achieving the very best outcomes for our residents, supporting people to have as much independence and choice as possible,  
is what motivates each of us every single day. I’m pleased the regulator has seen how this shows in the way St Cecilia’s is run day to day.”
