A warm welcome to Oakwood
We provide support and rehabilitation for people with brain injuries in a friendly and safe environment. Our team is fully trained and we’re regulated by the Care Quality Commission and accredited by Headway.
You’ll find us in Offerton, an area of Stockport. Stockport has plenty of amenities, including a library, leisure centre, swimming pool, pubs and shops. Other attractions include the plaza theatre, country parks and a hat museum.
Manchester is within easy reach too, with its fantastic range of shopping, culture and leisure options.
Facilities for you
Oakwood is a comfortable and modern purpose-built building with 13 bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities. There are five self-contained ‘flatlets’ which are equipped to help you live more independently — often an important part of your rehabilitation programme. We also have plenty of communal areas where you can get together with residents, family or friends.
Our facilities include:
- specialist equipment such as hoists, lifts, baths, beds and mattresses
- shared areas including dining room (with pool table), lounge, conservatory and therapy rooms
- a call system, which enables you to summon help from staff
- overnight accommodation in local B&Bs or hotels can be recommended to relatives or friends as required
We make sure mealtimes can be enjoyed by everyone. We will support you to get involved in menu planning and food preparation — this can be an important part of your rehabilitation programme.
We will also aim agree rehabilitation goals that take place outside the unit — for example going shopping or using public transport. Whatever activities you choose to do, our staff will support you to get the most out of them.
Our therapy team includes rehabilitation experts in speech and language, clinical neuro-psychology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and a therapy coordinator. The support each will offer you at Oakwood will depend on your needs and how your rehabilitation progresses.
Health and medication
Our staff will provide support so you can use medical and community services throughout your rehabilitation. Local GP practices are available for you to register with close by. If you need to take medication our staff are trained to support you.
