Bradbury House Sets Sail with Wetwheels Yorkshire
By Tessa Wallis and Janet Wilson Activities Workers at Bradbury House
At Bradbury House and Bradbury Court, we’re always looking for new ways to bring adventure, joy, and meaningful experiences to our residents, and our recent trip with Wetwheels Yorkshire certainly delivered all that and more!

Departing from Royal Quays Marina in North Shields, our group of residents embarked on a thrilling 90-minute voyage down the River Tyne and out into the open waters of the North Sea. The excitement on board was contagious from the moment we set sail, with everyone soaking in the fresh sea air and stunning coastal views.
One of the highlights of the day was seeing residents take the helm themselves, steering the boat with huge smiles on their faces and a real sense of freedom. Though we didn’t spot any of the dolphins or whales that have been recently seen along the coast, spirits remained high, and the experience was nothing short of magical.

A particularly unforgettable moment came courtesy of Alberto, one of our residents, who surprised everyone by steering us into a few cheeky loops, prompting laughter all around and making for a brilliant story to bring home.
Reflecting on the day, we both felt incredibly proud:
It was amazing to see the joy on everyone’s faces. These kinds of experiences are so important, they build confidence, create lasting memories, and most importantly, they’re fun. We’re so grateful to Wetwheels Yorkshire for making it possible.

Wetwheels Yorkshire provides fully accessible boating experiences for people of all ages and abilities, including those with profound and complex needs. This outing was a wonderful reminder of the power of inclusive activities, not just to open up the world, but to create unforgettable moments of connection, confidence, and pure joy.
We can’t wait to set sail again soon!
