Kennedy’s story
Kennedy is 14 and lives with his family in Zambia. In 2018 Kennedy fell from a tree which left him disabled and unable to use his legs.
After unsuccessful and complicated surgery following his fall, Kennedy’s family worried that he might eventually lose his leg. They tried all they could to support him but didn’t have the resources to do so. This led to Kennedy staying at home, unable to play with his friends or go to school.
Shortly after, Kennedy’s family heard about a health screening set up by one of our local teams, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, and took him along. After seeing him, the medical team were able to properly diagnose Kennedy and he was able to get the advanced medical care he needed.
After treatment, Kennedy’s condition improved considerably, and the team further supported him so he was able to enrol at a local school.
Kennedy’s teacher Melesiana said: “Kennedy loves school a lot and never misses class. He mentions that he would one day want to become a medical doctor so that he can support other children as he has been supported as well.”
We also spoke to Kennedy, who said: “I am extremely grateful to Leonard Cheshire for the help given to me for medical treatment and my enrolment in school, may God continue to bless you.”
Kennedy was able to get the support he needed thanks to donations, so please consider making a gift today.
