Wharfedale House: Wetherby care home rated ‘Good’ by Quality Care Commission

  • Latest inspection from health and social care regulator shows a ‘Good’ rating in all categories for Wharfedale House, run by disability charity Leonard Cheshire.
  • Wetherby home supports up to 18 disabled adults, providing independent living and high-quality person-centred care.

Wharfedale House, a care home and independent living service for disabled adults, is celebrating a highly positive report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The home, managed by disability charity Leonard Cheshire, received a rating of ‘Good’ in all inspection areas.

The service is home for up to 18 disabled adults and provides personalised care for every resident. Wharfedale House is equipped to provide expert support to people with a wide range of conditions including complex physical disabilities, learning disabilities, acquired brain injury and spinal injury.

A professional visiting the service told CQC, “They [staff] are fantastic. The way they support people, they are brilliant. I can't knock them.”

The CQC report, published in December, said that “People’s needs were assessed holistically, incorporating physical and emotional wellbeing. Care plans were person centred and representative of people’s individual needs, likes and preferences. Consideration had been given to all aspects of people’s lives in care planning.”

A resident at Wharfedale House told CQC inspectors: “It is good here. I definitely feel happy and safe. I wouldn't move from here now, I love it.”

Another resident told CQC about their independence at the service: “I get up at 6 o’clock usually, but that is my choice. I like to be up early. Staff help get me ready; they are lovely. It's up to me when I go to bed and what I do.”

James Rushworth, service manager at Wharfedale House, said:

“Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the fantastic team here at Wharfedale House, we’re delighted to have received a ‘Good’ rating from CQC. The team works hard every day to provide person-centred care at the highest standard, while making sure that our residents lead lives that are as independent and fulfilling as possible.”
