Diversity’s never been so funny

An all-star comedy line-up is set to hit Backyard Comedy Club at Leonard Cheshire’s upcoming inclusive comedy night.

The disability charity will be holding its first Cheshire Chuckle event on Tuesday 19 March with a diverse line-up hosted by Emily Lloyd-Saini, one-half of comedy sketch duo EGG and new star in popular multi-award-winning comedy Catastrophe.

The event celebrates diversity and inclusion and will see five hilarious acts take to the stage at the east London comedy venue. Ken Cheng, winner of the Joke of Edinburgh Fringe 2017 and co-host of new E4 gameshow, The Hangover Games, will be gracing the stage along with Twayna Mayne, whose honest, deadpan style saw her gain critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017.

Twayna is also debuting her own BBC Radio 4 season this summer.

American expat Tim Renkow will also be starring. Known for his dark sense of humour, Tim stars in brand-new BBC sitcom Jerk as a man who, as per the title, is a real jerk. Tim wants to challenge common perceptions of disabled people instead of sticking to stereotypes.

Completing the line-up will be Adam Hess and Sukh Ojla. Adam is known for his ‘good quality gags’, as described by The Independent, and has performed in festivals around the globe.

BBC Asian Network star Sukh is another one to watch and has appeared in several TV programmes including Black Mirror, EastEnders and Hospital People.

Event host Emily Lloyd-Saini said:

‘I’m so pleased to be hosting this brand-new event alongside an absolutely brilliant line up.

‘Diversity and inclusion are so important in the comedy world, (as well as the real world) because generally we laugh at what we can relate to — more voices mean more perspectives on life and the world we live in, which can only be a good thing!

‘Representation matters and I’m happy to be part of an event that acknowledges that.’
