Avila House, an Extra Care service for disabled adults, is celebrating a highly positive report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The service, managed by disability charity Leonard Cheshire, received a rating of ‘Good’ in all inspection areas.
The CQC report, published in October 2025, said that “staff recognised and catered for the diverse needs of people they supported.”
Avila House is home for up to 20 disabled adults and provides personalised care for every tenant. The service is equipped to provide expert support to people with a wide range of conditions including physical impairments such as cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, acquired brain injuries, mental health needs, autism and epilepsy. Staff support disabled people of all ages with personal care, independent living skills and accessing the local community.
An Avila House tenant told CQC inspectors that moving to Avila House had been a really positive experience for them; it had helped relieve their anxiety and encouraged their independence.
Avila House opened in November 2023, and this was the first full inspection of the service. Staff at the service are delighted to receive a ‘good’ rating from CQC. Leonard Cheshire has a dedicated team of quality improvement staff who will continue to conduct internal audits to maintain the high standards that staff at Avila House have set.
Deidre Johnson, service manager at Avila House, said:
“We achieved a ‘Good’ rating thanks to the hard work and dedication of everyone at Avila House. I’m so proud of the team here, who work hard every day to provide person-centred care of the highest standards, while making sure that Avila House is a friendly and welcoming place to live for our tenants.”
