Change 100 eligibility criteria

Is our internship scheme right for you? Find out the eligibility criteria for our Change 100 scheme.

Summary of eligibility criteria

To apply to Change 100 for summer 2024, you must:

  • Consider yourself to have a disability or long-term condition as defined in the Equality Act 2010.
  • Have the right to work in the UK for a summer.
  • Be in your penultimate or final year of university level study, or have graduated in 2021, 2022 or 2023.
  • Be predicted or have achieved at least a 2:1 at university (or have mitigating circumstances for a lower grade).
  • Be able to attend an assessment process in January or February.

Disability

To be eligible for the programme, applicants must self-identify with the definition of disability as outlined in the Equality Act 2010. You are disabled under the Equality Act 2010 if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.

You can read the full definition on the UK Government website.

Information on when a mental health condition becomes a disability.

Applicants with neurodivergent conditions (such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, ADHD), mobility impairments, sensory impairments, long-term conditions (such as IBS, diabetes, Chron’s disease, epilepsy, chronic fatigue), and mental health conditions (such as anxiety, depression, bipolar, OCD, anorexia)

However please note, this is not an exhaustive list. We will not ask you for medical evidence of your disability – we only ask that you identify with the legal definition as outlined above.

The right to work in the UK

To participate in the Change 100 programme, you must have the right to work in the UK during summer 2024.

You are eligible to apply for the programme if you are a British citizen, an EU/EEA/Swiss national resident working in the UK by or before 31 December 2020 or a Non-EEA national with Indefinite Leave to Remain/Settlement in the UK.

If you are an international student studying at a UK university, you are eligible for Change 100 if your Tier 4 visa is valid from June to September 2024.

At the assessment centre stage, you will be required to show your passport, or other documentation, to prove your eligibility to work in the UK.

For the most up-to-date information on the right to work in the UK, please visit the UK Visa and Immigration Home Office website and the UK Council for International Affairs website.

University level study

To be eligible for the Change 100 programme this year, you are required to have graduated or be graduating with an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 or 2025. Any degree subject is accepted.

Predicted degree grade and mitigating circumstances

You are required to have achieved or be predicted a 2:1 or 1st in your undergraduate degree. To find out your predicted degree class, you can either speak to your university to obtain their guidelines on how to calculate this (universities will have a document outlining how your final degree classification is calculated), or you could use an online degree calculator, for example Grade Hub or Uni Grade Calc.

If your academic performance has been affected by mitigating circumstances, these will be considered. Please get in touch with the Change 100 team on change100applications@leonardcheshire.org or 020 3242 0299 to discuss these with a member of the team.

Availability

You must be able to attend a half-day assessment centre in January or February 2024. We will be holding assessment centres online this year.

Our exact assessment centre dates are yet to be decided and we will communicate these if you are successful through the application stage.
