Response to John McDonnell’s speech on adult social care

Social care has been a misunderstood afterthought for too long and disabled people have borne the brunt of this neglect.

Our Chief Executive Neil Heslop said:

‘We need bold thinking to solve the social care crisis and welcome the intent, but today’s announcement reinforces the myth that social care is restricted to the over 65’s.

‘Our research shows that more than half of working aged disabled adults in the UK don’t receive the care and support they need and 83% of people will develop a disability within their working life.  We will watch the eventual policy detail with interest.

‘Social care has been a misunderstood afterthought for too long and disabled people have borne the brunt of this neglect. They deserve the support they need to participate fully in every aspect of their life.’
