Time commitment

The role is very flexible to fit around your schedule and the needs of our clients. However, we hope that our volunteers will commit to at least 4 hours a month for 6 months.  The role will take place in various locations in your local area depending on the needs of the client, including in the community or in a person’s own home.

Role description

We need friendly, patient people with a good knowledge of IT to support disabled people to access the digital world. We want someone with experience of using PCs and tablets, Microsoft Office programs, Skype as well as social media. But you don’t need to be an IT expert, the most important qualities our volunteers need are patience and an ability to explain things people may be unfamiliar with. You must also be able to adapt your expectations and language as needed in order to support clients.

You will make a difference by coaching people on how to use the internet and email, building digital confidence and troubleshooting basic IT issues.

And if you volunteer with us, you have the satisfaction that you have used your IT skills to support a disabled person keep in touch with loved ones, apply for a job and pursue their interests. Ongoing training and support will be provided along with expenses, as it’s important to us that our volunteers are not out of pocket because of volunteering with us.
