Digital Buddy for Cheshire House
Are you friendly, patient and adaptable? Do you know your Excel from your eBay? Do you do your shopping online? Did you know that 25% of people with a registered disability are offline compared with 6% of the rest of the UK? Help bridge the digital skills gap and learn new skills by joining our team today.
We are happy to be flexible and fit around your schedule. We’d like a commitment of at least six months.
We need friendly, patient people with a basic knowledge of IT to support disabled people to access the digital world. We’d like a volunteer with experience of using tablets and PCs, who enjoys using the internet for leisure and learning, and with experience of Microsoft Office programs. You don’t need to be an IT expert, the most important qualities our volunteers need are patience and an ability to explain things people may be unfamiliar with. You must also be able to adapt your expectations and language as needed in order to support clients.
You will make a difference by coaching people on how to use the internet, building digital confidence and troubleshooting basic IT issues.
You will gain experience working with disabled people, as well as learning about the developing field of assistive technology. And if you volunteer with us, you have the satisfaction that you have used your IT skills to support a disabled person keep in touch with loved ones, apply for a job and pursue their interests. Ongoing training and support will be provided along with expenses, as it’s important to us that our volunteers are not out of pocket because of volunteering with us.
