The team from Godfrey Robinson House after winning their awardA group of carers from North Ferriby in the East Riding of Yorkshire have been recognised for their dedication to providing excellent care by an international charity at an awards ceremony in Speaker’s House, Westminster.

Leonard Cheshire Disability, which runs Godfrey Robinson House, awarded the team the prestigious excellence and impact award as part of their annual staff awards on Wednesday 20 July.

The service impressed judges with their excellent team work, remaining calm and professional, when illness threatened the service while a surprise CQC inspection took place at the home for adults with physical and learning disabilities.

Service manager Christine Jimoh said:

‘It felt really good to win — we were surprised to be shortlisted!

‘It’s lovely and it does mean a lot, but the thing is you just get on and you do [your job], you don’t think about it.’

Godfrey Robinson House joined other finalists at the awards ceremony to celebrate the leading stars at the charity, named after its founder, the war hero and global humanitarian Leonard Cheshire.

The Rt Hon John Bercow MP, the Speaker of the House of Commons, said:

‘Those receiving these awards should be extremely proud of the contribution they make, the lives they improve, and the people they inspire.’

Leonard Cheshire chair Sally Davis said:

‘I was deeply moved to hear the lengths our winners go to, to improve the lives of disabled people and I would like to express a huge congratulations to them.

‘They should feel particularly proud to have stood out among so many examples of excellence, as the competition for these awards was extremely tight.

‘Hearing about all the energy, compassion and creativity with which they approach their roles is truly inspiring.

‘Their hard work makes me feel immensely privileged to be part of Leonard Cheshire Disability.’
