Statement on the Institute for Fiscal Studies report on public spending on adult social care in England

3 May 2017

Responding to the Institute for Fiscal Studies report on public spending on adult social care in England, Neil Heslop, chief executive of Leonard Cheshire Disability, said:

'This report underlines our own findings about the severe strain social care is currently under due to lack of funding. Worryingly, the areas with the greatest need for extra funding are getting less.

'Those in need of social care shouldn’t face a postcode lottery of whether they receive care or not just because of where they live. It has never been more necessary for any future government to find a fair and sustainable social care solution.

'We maintain our call for an independent cross-party commission to deliver long-term funding, so that the system works for everyone. With the growing pressures on social care from an aging population, a long-term solution must be an urgent priority.'
