Response to social worker survey which reveals impact of service cuts

20 September 2017

Leonard Cheshire Disability responds to social worker survey that reveals impact of service cuts. The survey by Community Care Magazine, was supported by the Care and Support Alliance.

Chief executive of Leonard Cheshire Disability, Neil Heslop, said: ‘These are extremely worrying findings and sadly reflect what people with disabilities tell us. Social care at every level is under enormous pressure from under funding, and lack of basic support can have a devastating impact on people’s lives.

‘Our own research has found that almost half of disabled adults who say they need social care do not receive any support at all. This is leaving thousands of people with disabilities trapped at home, isolated and unemployed.

‘We urgently need an cross-party independent commission to find a long-term solution for social care in England — so that the system is fit for purpose.’
