Response to latest ONS disability employment figures
18 May 2016
Commenting on today's disability employment figures from the ONS, Leonard Cheshire Disability’s head of policy and campaigns, Patrick Olszowski, said:
'This time last year, the government had just been elected with a pledge to halve the disability employment gap by 2020. To achieve this, over one million more disabled people will need to find and sustain work by 2020.
'A year on, today’s figures show that just over 120,000 more disabled people are now in work. This is good news but there is a still a long way to go.
'The Department for Work and Pensions is due to publish a green paper outlining how the government will support more disabled people to progress in their careers.
'To make their pledge a reality, the government must publish these proposals without further delay.'
