Response to Housing Bill announced in Queen's Speech
27 May 2015
Commenting on the Housing Bill announced in the Queen’s Speech today, Andy Cole, Director of Corporate Affairs at Leonard Cheshire Disability, said:
‘Across Great Britain, 300,000 disabled people are stuck on housing waiting lists desperately waiting for a home that meets their needs.
‘Tens of thousands are forced to wash at their kitchen sink, use a commode in their living room and rely on support to cook and wash themselves because their home is not suitable.
‘We are disappointed that there is no mention of the need to tackle this crisis in the plans for the Housing Bill, and will be pressing the government to take definitive action to make sure that more properly accessible homes are built in the UK.’
