Response to ESA mortality statistics
27 August 2015
In response to the publication of mortality statistics of those who have died after claiming Employment and Support Allowance (PDF), Gus Baldwin, Leonard Cheshire Disability’s managing director of public affairs and engagement, said:
‘The figures are extremely worrying and further evidence that the fit-for-work test needs an overhaul. Too often those who are too ill to work are wrongly being found fit to do so. We want the government to work with disabled people on a new test which fairly identifies whether someone is too ill to work.’
