Response to Culture, Media and Sport Committee report on accessibility of sports stadia

16 January 2017

Responding to the Culture, Media and Sport Committee report on accessibility of sports stadia Leonard Cheshire Disability chief executive Neil Heslop said:

‘We welcome today’s report from the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, which highlights how disabled supporters continue to be sidelined by many Premier League clubs due to a lack of investment in accessible seating.

‘The report points out disabled spectators often have poor sightlines, while away fans with disabilities are often only given seating in the home ends of stadiums.

‘Being denied the opportunity to join in in the same way as other fans is unacceptable.

‘The committee has said it will support the Equality and Human Rights Commission if it starts legal proceedings against clubs that continue to flout the law.

‘This is something that we would also welcome.’
