Our response to the latest disability employment figures

16 November 2016

Commenting on today's disability employment figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS), Leonard Cheshire Disability’s campaigns director, Peter Jenkins, said:

‘Today’s figures show the disability employment rate has increased by 2.6% compared to this time last year, and just over 240,000 more disabled people are in work. This is good news.

‘However, the government remains at least 65,000 jobs behind their target to halve the disability employment gap, and there is a still a long way to go before all disabled people who want to work are able to do so.

‘Crucially there are no details about the additional funding sorely needed to make this aspiration a reality.’
