Clare Pelham responds to the Comprehensive Spending Review

25 November 2015

Reacting to the chancellor’s Comprehensive Spending Review announcement today Leonard Cheshire Disability's chief executive, Clare Pelham, said:

‘We are poring over the detail, but we are puzzled.

‘The chancellor seems to have seen only half of the problem.

‘Extra freedoms and responsibilities on councils to raise money to pay for care for disabled and older people will help.

‘But they will only pay for half of what is needed.

It will be a reverse postcode lottery. Don’t be old or disabled in a poorer area where the council can’t afford to pay for care for all who need it.

‘The cost of the missing care will be a human cost. A human cost paid by those least able to bear it — disabled and older people.’
