Comment on the decision reached by the Supreme Court concerning the responsibility of bus companies to ensure wheelchair users are given priority to use the wheelchair space on buses

18 January 2017

Commenting on the decision reached by the Supreme Court today concerning the responsibility of bus companies to ensure wheelchair users are given priority to use the wheelchair space on buses, Leonard Cheshire Disability campaign director Peter Jenkins said:

‘We welcome the Supreme Court’s judgement today, which we hope will lead to positive change for disabled bus passengers who should feel confident that a space will always be made available for them.

‘This case shows the significant positive impact that individual campaigners can have.

‘This judgement from the Supreme Court is very clear.

‘All bus companies must now do more to ensure their service is fully accessible for disabled people.

‘Following this, we hope that all services providers — shops, train companies, airlines — will take note of this judgement and work to ensure that their services are always fully accessible to disabled customers.’
