Charity talent show seeks Weston’s best performers

17 July 2017

Lou, resident at Birnbeck House Weston-super-Mare’s greatest performers are set to compete in a talent show to raise money for disabled people in the region.

The competition, run by Leonard Cheshire Disability’s care home Birnbeck House in Weston-super-Mare, is looking for musicians, singers, dancers and comedians to showcase their skills and raise funds for the disabled adults Birnbeck House supports.

All money raised will help build a state of the art sensory garden, enhancing the lives of 13 adults with learning disabilities living at the home.

The competition is open to both individuals and groups, with under-16s also welcome. Anyone who thinks they have got what it takes can enter and stands a chance to win up to £250.

All budding hopefuls will hear by end of September if they have made it to the final showdown.

In the style of Britain’s Got Talent, finalists will perform in front of judges and a live audience on Friday 20 October at The Tropicana.

This competition is part of Leonard Cheshire Disability’s celebrations for the 100th birthday of the charity’s founder, war hero and global humanitarian Leonard Cheshire. In light of his centenary celebrations, Birnbeck House’s talent competition is named Cent’sational Starz.

Lou, who lives at Birnbeck House, said:

‘A sensory garden will be just brilliant for me and everyone living here. I’m really looking forward to the talent show. It should be a great night!’

Sarah Granger, service manager at Birnbeck House, said:

‘The sensory garden will be a fantastic new space, with sights and sounds that will help people living here to make the most of nature. It will make a huge difference to people’s lives.’
