Sian Welby receiving awardChannel 5’s weather presenter, and friend of our charity, Sian Welby has been given an award for her role in supporting disabled and older people in her home borough.

The Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Nicola Nardelli, awards a special badge to dedicated volunteers in the community.

‘The boost Sian has given the Winter Warmer campaign in Wandsworth over the past two years has undoubtedly saved lives and I’m proud to present her with this badge in recognition of her efforts.’ — Cllr Nicola Nardelli

Sian was recognised for her creativity and commitment in raising awareness, through the media, of the dangers cold temperatures pose to society’s most vulnerable people.

Sian has been the celebrity face and voice of the Keep Well, Keep Warm campaign, run through our Randall Close resource centre, since 2013.

‘Despite it seeming like a mild Christmas in the capital this year, most of the call outs and problems occur when the temperatures are between two and eight degrees.

‘I am honoured to receive the award for playing a role in encouraging people to look out for one another through the campaign.

‘I am happy Leonard Cheshire Disability has seen a marked decrease in winter deaths in Wandsworth since the campaign started, but we must stay vigilant.’
