Justin Tomlinson MP helps relaunch our Change100 careers guide

Change100 career guideThe Minister of State for Disabled People, Justin Tomlinson MP, is helping us relaunch our career guide for disabled students.

This is Your Future is written by disabled students on our Change100 work placement scheme to help kick-start disabled students' careers. At the same time it encourages employers to tap into an amazing talent pool which is often overlooked. The updated guide features a new forward from Justin Tomlinson.

Disability employment gap

At present, national statistics show less than half of working age disabled adults are in work, while three-quarters of non-disabled people of the same age have jobs.

The good news is schemes like Change100 and DWP's Disability Confident are beginning to open more doors for more people.

Change100, part of our programme of helping disabled people find employment, offers paid internships for talented disabled university students and recent graduates over the summer months. After the initial placement is over the programme provides further mentoring.

The guide, based on experiences by the students, offers straightforward advice on getting work experience and talking about disability. It also looks at how to deal with applications, assessment centres and interviews.

We are thrilled at how many students and employers have signed up so far, and want to encourage even more employers to join and students to apply. We are proud to help each student and employer to grow and gain confidence.

More information, including how to download the guide, can be found on our Change100 page. The student application process opens on 9 November 2015.
