Huddersfield Giants stars visit Beechwood

12 September 2014

Rugby players Kyle Wood and Josh Johnson joined Huddersfield mascot Big G to hand out trophies to Beechwood residents who had taken part in a month long board game tournament.

Ten residents competed against one another in Scrabble Upwords and Fives and Threes dominoes.

Gemma McCorkindale is the volunteer co-ordinator at the service. She said: ‘Everyone has really enjoyed the games tournament. All the residents were invited to get involved and some sat in as spectators. There was a great atmosphere and it brought out the competitive streak of everyone who took part!’

Gemma managed to secure the players and mascot from the Huddersfield Giants after partnering with the National Citizens Network (NCS) to help recruit volunteers.

Russell was among the Beechwood residents lining up to get their photos taken with Big G, Josh and Kyle:

Stuart Ramsden was the overall winner of the tournament. Also pictured below are Tricia, Peter and Ian. Sadly, Ian has passed away since this photograph was taken. He was an active member of the Making Beechwood Bloom garden committee and is missed by everyone at Beechwood.
