Dragons fire themselves to swimming success

24 November 2016

A pupil at Dragon School swimmingWith the centenary of our founder Leonard Cheshire just around the corner, over 100 children at his old primary school collectively swam the length of the English Channel — 1,416 lengths of the pool — in aid of our charity.

The Dragon School pupils ‘reached France’ in under an hour!

As an old Dragon, Leonard embodied the school’s values of courage, respect and kindness.

They even swam further than the original challenge intended, finishing on an impressive 1,603 lengths, nearly 25 miles!

‘The swim the channel challenge was exhilarating. I felt an adrenaline rush every time I jumped into the pool.’ — Ludo, pupil at the Dragon School

‘It was exhausting, but the whole time I was proud that all the effort was going to charity.’ — Isobel, pupil at the Dragon School

Many thanks to all those who supported the event, including those who sponsored the children.

It is hoped that in excess of £2,000 will be raised.
