Care Home Open Day - caring communitiesThis Friday is Care Home Open Day, ‘a UK-wide initiative inviting care homes to open their doors to their local communities’.

Six of our services are taking part this year. Members of the public are welcome to come along, take a tour and enjoy a range of activities. If one of them is near you, join the fun!

Athol House, Dulwich, London
1 to 3pm

Athol HouseStaff will be showcasing their talents!

  • carnival with face painting and clowning
  • dancing
  • candy floss
  • music and singing
  • tea and cake

We will be remembering a resident and a member of staff we have recently lost, as well as thanking two members of staff for their 10 years of service.

Bradbury House, Crook, County Durham
1 to 4pm

  • Bradbury Housefelt-making
  • bread making
  • flower arranging
  • afternoon tea
  • cake decorating
  • parachute exercises
  • fundraising raffle

Pat Glass MP will also be there.

Green Gables, Alfreton
2 to 5pm

  • Green Gablesdisco
  • needlecrafts
  • card making
  • gardening and afternoon tea
  • performance from Christ the King School Choir

The Lord Mayor of Amber Valley will open the event.

John Masefield House, Abingdon
10am to 12.30pm

  • John Masefield Housefishing on the lake
  • music activities with overseas volunteers
  • arts and crafts
  • cakes and a cream tea
  • gardening and planting.
  • flamenco dancing (11am)

John Howell MP is coming along too.

Llanhennock Lodge, Newport
11am to 3.30pm

Llanhennock LodgeA team of Can Doers and other volunteers will give visitors a guided tour around the building and its gardens and our hydrotherapy pool and physiotherapy and activities areas.

  • petting zoo with Lauren (11am to 12.30pm)
  • live entertainment with singer Nigel Elmore (12pm to 3.30pm)
  • barbecue (1pm to 2pm)
  • cream tea
  • raffle
  • arts and crafts 
  • information stands
  • introduction to Can Do and Touch Trust
  • presentation about our founder, Leonard Cheshire

David Davies MP is attending.

Saltways, Redditch
11am to 5pm


  • pets as therapy dogs
  • live music, poetry readings and comedy
  • vintage tea and cake
  • arts and crafts
  • tombola
