Future Choices

Our Future Choices programme is perhaps our most ambitious project yet. We aim to work with every single person using our residential social care services to see how they want to live their lives in future, and how they want to be supported.

We already try to ensure the care and support we provide is centred on the choices and preferences of disabled people.

Participants in a Future Choices workshop - large group of care home residents, staff, facilitatorsFuture Choices builds on this experience and extends it to ensure everything we do is based on this understanding.

What will Future Choices do for the individual?

Through Future Choices we might, for example, work with disabled people in a service to make local buses more accessible. Or set up peer to peer support to boost job interview practice.

Large sheet of paper with interconnected speech bubbles and comments, mapping what residents tell us is working at their homeFuture Choices will ensure the people we support guide the services we provide and, importantly, influencing others to do likewise.

To us it is simply about formalising the way we try to work every day, with the individual at the heart of all that we do.

Pilot project locations

Future Choices is being piloted in eight of our services in Yorkshire and the East Midlands. The ambition is to roll it out across all of our residential services from April 2016 onwards.

The resources we produce, and the learning that we gather, will then be shared with the whole sector. so disabled people everywhere will benefit.
