In May 2019 Nick and Diane will be running their 100th marathon in memory of Valerie Harrold. So far they have raised over £1,300 for Holehird Leonard Cheshire service.
Valerie loved nothing more than being outside. Normally she would either be out exploring the great outdoors in walking boots or running shoes. Valerie walked John O’Groats to Lands’ End, climbed Kilimanjaro and to Everest Base Camp. An inspiration to so many, she encouraged and supported others to reach their goals.
Sadly in September 2013 Valerie had a life changing accident which resulted in her having a severe head injury. Paralysed from the neck down, she also became partially sighted and lost the ability to swallow. After six months in hospital Valerie moved into Holehird Nursing Home where she received 24 hour nursing care.
Soon after Valerie’s accident, Nick and Diane started to run marathons to raise money for Holehird Nursing Home, continuing to do so in Valerie’s memory after she died in September 2018. Such a wonderful way to remember such a special person.
“Valerie had a passion for running and we know she would be so proud of us both for working towards our 100th marathon.”
