Our befriender roles normally only require a commitment of 1-3 hours per visit per week or fortnight (or even less if necessary) to fit in with the client's social time and the volunteer's availability. Every arrangement however is discussed and agreed in detail beforehand so that everyone involved is happy going forward.
The befriending role involves attending at the supported living service on days and times agreed to support a client in receipt of our service to spend time chatting, having 'a cuppa', doing pastimes or sharing in any hobbies or interests. Depending on individual circumstances, walks and drives out into the local community to visitor centres are also highly valued. No personal care tasks are involved.
It is no exaggeration that our volunteers gain as much from our befriending roles as the client's do in enjoying their visits.
