Gardening Volunteer (#003)


We seek volunteer gardeners who would like to use his or her gardening experience and abilities to support the charity and its residents with light gardening maintenance in our supported living houses.



Time commitment

Times and days will all be discussed in detail with the volunteer to ensure a mutually agreeable arrangement which works for the volunteer, the residents and the tasks required. A commitment of no more than 2-3 hours per week would suffice.

Role description

Leonard Cheshire's supported living houses are located in Dumfries, Glencaple and Annan and each have lawned gardens with mature trees, shrubs and vegetable patches.

They are maintained by landlord contractors but still require light work on a routine basis, especially where disabled residents like to get out into the gardens to enjoy some light pottering or tidying.

No formal gardening qualifications are required but good skills and experience are desired.

Travel, other reasonable expenses and a PVG Certificate are paid for by the charity.

Opportunity highlights

This very worthwhile role presents an opportunity for a volunteer with gardening experience to utilise skills in a way which enhances the environment and also does so much for the enjoyment that the disabled people will get from their gardens

Free training is available in Adult Support and Protection, Manual Handling, Date Security Awareness and other modules are available. This role and the training available enhance skills in communication, confidence and support work which benefits a CV.
