How to get here

Based in Romsey, Hampshire, we are close to the local high street in with its cafes, shops and restaurants. We are also close to the nearby cities of Southampton, Portsmouth and Winchester. There are good rail links to all three cities. 

We deliver person-centred care for disabled adults so people can live life as they choose. Every resident has their own person-centred plan (PCP.) You’ll find an environment where everyone’s personal preferences and wishes are understood and respected.  

All of our residents are wheelchair users, so of course there is full wheelchair access throughout the property. Our residents have a variety of conditions including: cerebral palsy, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis (MS), spinal injuries, acquired brain injuries. We also have experience of supporting people with motor-neurone disease (MND). 

At Fryers House our committed and friendly staff help everyone in all aspects of their daily life. We help people to do the things they want to do, and we provide with excellent person-centred care. Our support workers co-operate closely with our expert nursing team and outside professionals. This helps ensure everyone gets great individual support. 

We help with all daily living tasks including all forms of personal care, medication management and a wide range of activities. 

We have two cooks, dishing up a variety of freshly prepared meals. We can meet specialist dietary requirements. We can also support people who require enteral feeding and people who have tracheostomies. 

We have a physiotherapist who is here five days per week. Our physio also manages a physio assistant, who works two days per week. They can support residents throughout the service, including in our dedicated therapy room. 

We can support people with communication difficulties. We work closely with the external speech and language therapy (SALT) team. The team also advise us in our crucial support for people with dysphagia (swallowing difficulties). 

Some of our residents using assistive technology (AT), including basic voice assistants like Alexa. To help residents make the most of technology, we liaise with experts from Leonard Cheshire and the local NHS trust.  

We also have a sensory room that creates a world of new experiences. There’s an array of lighting options (some of these are tactile) and sound options from specialist equipment. This includes a magic carpet projector with interactive options- including everything from musical instruments to underwater journeys. Residents can change the options depending on where they move. 

There’s a wide range of in-house activities including arts and crafts, baking, film nights and whatever people want to do. 

We encourage residents to get out and about whenever possible. There’s Romsey street market on Friday and Saturday. Residents like to go into the welcoming cafés in the town centre. Keen swimmers can head to Romsey Rapids, which now has hoist facilities to get into the swimming pool. 

There’s a host of activities available locally and in the nearby cities of Southampton and Portsmouth. People can take in shows in Romsey’s Plaza Theatre, and they can see big acts at The Mayflower in Southampton or the Portsmouth Guildhall. Shopaholics are spoiled for choice. They have Romsey’s local stores, as well as major shopping centres like West Quay in Southampton and Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth. 

We also have links with the local football clubs. Residents often attend Southampton matches thanks to our links with Saints Foundation. 

We are also close to the historic city of Winchester with its celebrated cathedral. We’re also not far from a safari park –  Marwell Zoological Park, and a theme park –  Paulton’s Park.
